In this study, Ag-doped ZnO powders were synthesized by coprecipitation using zinc sulfate salt and silver nitrate salt as starting materials. For the doping source contained in ZnO target, was used AgNO3 powder with a various mixing ratio (0, 0.02 and 0.05 wt.%). The obtained materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and specific surface. The antimicrobial property was assessed using Penicillium. The results suggest that Ag-doped ZnO powders exhibits good antimicrobial property and only a very low concentration of silver is needed. This work demonstrates the possible use of these powders as pigments with antimicrobial properties for indoor and outdoor paints.
