In the paper was examined a physical activated granular charcoal sort obtained in laboratory conditions of S.C. BIOPHAN Natura naturans Baiculesti – Curtea de Arges. In this way, local vegetable rests were thermal treated in two stages (at 350 and 850oC respectively) in the inactive medium of carbon dioxide. Material was supported size reduction and granulometry classification operations after each stage of thermal treated. Granular material of activated charcoal physical-chemical has been analysed. Were determined: bulk density (0.4 g/cm3), humidity (2.14 %), content of volatile materials (21.51%) and of ash (10.56%) respectively, pH of filtrate aqueous extract after boiling (5.8-6.2), grain size distribution by sieving (fraction 1 to 2 mm represented over 60%). By mercury porosimeter distribution and size of meso and macro pores were established. By XRD was ascertaining an average degree of crystalinity. Were identified hexagonal and rhombohedra graphite. The FTIR adsorption spectra indicated presence of carbonyl (n = 1700 cm-1) and carboxyl (n = 1104 cm-1) acid groups. Adsorption ability of activated charcoal granules was estimated by specific surface (35 cm2/g) and adsorption indexes of methylene blue and iodine. The adsorption isotherms at 250C were quantified by Freundlich equations.
