A fluorescent photosensitive glass-ceramic containing nanocrystals with rare earths ions such as samarium (Sm) was realized in order to be used as 3D optical data storage medium. Photosensitivity properties were obtained by including silver (Ag) and cerium (Ce) into the composition of the material. We present experimental results obtained by XRD, SEM and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The measurements reveal the presence of fluorescent NaSmF4 nanocrystals having dimensions in the range of tens of nanometer.
