At present, research and investigation work is underway to develop and put to work in practical application new materials with promising features in terms of energy content, environmental impact and performance characteristics so as to comply with the requirements for modern construction materials. This paper investigated such high performance materials based on Portland cement, developed by using highly reactive metakaolin as an addition to the cementitious matrix. The paper presents the results of the investigation of the method of obtaining highly reactive metakaolin and Portland metakaolin cement sorts in the laboratory as well as their characterisation in terms of their main physical and mechanical properties.
